Ferndale sits low on the Nooksack River plain, where wind crosses open farmland with nothing to slow it down — southwesterly rain in the wet season, and in cold snaps the northeaster pouring out of the Fraser Valley. That combination works siding fasteners loose and drives water into any seam that wasn't flashed right. The housing stock is two distinct generations: older farmhouse-era homes near downtown and Church Road, and the fast-growing subdivisions built from the '90s through today as Ferndale became one of Whatcom County's growth cities — many now hitting the age where original builder-grade siding and windows fail together.
We pull our own permits through the City of Ferndale's online permit center — the same portal, the same inspectors, week after week. Being headquartered here means the process is routine for us, and that shows up as a smoother schedule for you.
…and everywhere else inside city limits, plus surrounding Whatcom County.

"Siding Vault was referred to me after I learned I had some issues around my windows/generally with the original siding. Michael and Kristina walked me through the entire process and explained what it was that may have been causing my issues. Marco and the other work crews that worked on my home were fantastic. They worked around scheduling and were fast at getting the job done, without sacrificing quality. The before and after photos speak for themselves and I would recommend Siding Vault for an exterior project needs!"

What Moves the Cost in Ferndale?
Every bid is measured on site and itemized — these are the factors that actually change the number.
Wall area drives material; height drives scaffold time. A two-story home near Downtown Main Street prices differently than a rambler off Church Road.
Siding replacement →What's behind the old siding is the honest unknown — on a full-home re-side, sheathing rot repair is typically included at no extra cost, and anything past the sheathing, which is very uncommon, is quoted as a change order.
Rot repair →Hardie ColorPlus, primed fiber cement, or engineered wood — we quote options side by side so you see the real difference.
Compare materials →Combining siding and windows saves one full mobilization and gets properly integrated flashing — the cheapest time to do windows is during a re-side.

How Ferndale Was Built
Ferndale's oldest walls are its plainest ones. The town grew up in the 1870s as a river landing on the Nooksack, and its first generation of housing was cut from the forest around it — log construction, then rough-sawn lumber from the small mills that lined the river. Eleven of those original pioneer cabins survive today in Pioneer Park, one of the best collections in the Northwest, and the cedar-sided farmhouses that followed them still stand near downtown and out Church Road.
The next building wave came with industry. The refinery now run by Phillips 66 opened south of town in 1954, the Intalco aluminum smelter followed at Cherry Point in 1966, and BP's Cherry Point refinery started up in 1971. Those payrolls filled Ferndale with modest postwar ranches and ramblers — simple wood and early hardboard exteriors, single-pane and aluminum windows, built quickly for working families.
Then the town tripled. Ferndale grew from roughly 5,400 people in 1990 to just over 15,000 at the 2020 census, and its 2010–2020 growth made it one of the fastest-growing cities in the county. Most of that growth arrived as subdivision housing — engineered-wood lap siding, builder-grade vinyl windows, and vinyl trim, installed at production speed across whole neighborhoods at once.
That timeline is why Ferndale exteriors fail in cohorts. The farmhouse-era homes rot at bottom courses and sills after a century of splash-back; the industrial-era ranches carry aging hardboard and original windows; and the '90s–2000s subdivisions are now reaching the 25–30 year mark where builder-grade siding and windows tend to give out together, street by street.
