Arlington splits cleanly by building era: the Old Town grid above the forks of the Stillaguamish carries homes from the 1890s–1930s shingle-mill years, patched for generations, while Gleneagle built out around its golf course from 1987 to 2002 and Smokey Point — annexed in 1999 — filled with '90s–2010s subdivisions whose builder-grade siding and windows fail together. Valley rain feeds moss on every shaded wall, and low ground near the river holds damp against bottom courses.
Permits run through the City of Arlington's Building Services Division, and homes in the Old Town Residential district follow the city's Old Town design standards for exterior changes — we handle the paperwork start to finish, with river-adjacent parcels confirmed per address.
…and the valley roads toward Darrington and Stanwood.

What Moves the Cost in Arlington?
Every bid is measured on site and itemized — these are the factors that actually change the number.
Wall area drives material; height drives scaffold time. A downtown two-story with layered repairs prices differently than a Gleneagle rambler.
Siding replacement →What's behind the old siding is the honest unknown — on a full-home re-side, sheathing rot repair is typically included at no extra cost, and anything past the sheathing, which is very uncommon, is quoted as a change order.
Rot repair →Hardie ColorPlus, primed fiber cement, or engineered wood — we quote options side by side so you see the real difference.
Compare materials →Combining siding and windows saves one full mobilization and gets properly integrated flashing — the cheapest time to do windows is during a re-side.

How Arlington Was Built
Arlington began as two rival plats at the forks of the Stillaguamish — Haller City and Arlington, laid out in 1889–1890 where the railroad met the river — and by the 1890s the confluence ran at least three shingle mills cutting the valley's cedar. When the town incorporated in May 1903, absorbing what was left of Haller City, it elected a shingle-mill owner as its first mayor. The homes those years built still stand on the Old Town grid: simple millworker houses, farmhouses, and craftsman-era stock with cedar siding, patched and repainted for a century. Today that grid is the city's Old Town Residential district, with design standards meant to keep exterior changes in character.
The next era arrived by air. Local citizens graded a WPA-funded airstrip in 1934, the Navy took it over during World War II, and in June 1943 it was commissioned as Naval Auxiliary Air Station Arlington — now on the National Register. After the war the field came back to the city, and the airport side slowly grew into the business park and industrial land that anchors Arlington's economy today.
The subdivision decades did most of the building. Gleneagle spread around its golf course between 1987 and 2002 and became one of the city's largest neighborhoods; in 1999, after a long boundary fight with Marysville, Arlington annexed the northeast portion of Smokey Point along I-5, and tract construction filled in behind it through the 2000s and 2010s. That stock — hardboard and early fiber-cement siding, builder-grade vinyl windows — now ages out in waves, street by street.
So Arlington re-sides split three ways: century-old Old Town walls that need lead-safe practices and profile matching, a thin ring of mid-century homes near downtown, and large tracts hitting the 25-to-35-year mark all at once. We bid to the era in front of us.
