Everett homes typically need different things by era: the 1890s–1920s homes in Northwest, Bayside, Riverside, and Lowell often carry a century of layered repairs, the postwar blocks through View Ridge-Madison can still have original single-pane windows and tired siding, and the 1970s–2000s subdivisions around Silver Lake are reaching the age when original hardboard and builder-grade siding typically fail. The Puget Sound Convergence Zone typically sets up between north Seattle and Everett, and storm winds typically blow from the south, so south-facing walls usually take the most wind-driven rain.
Inside city limits, permits run through Everett Permit Services. Everett's permit-exemption list doesn't include re-siding, so a re-side typically needs a permit; when a permit is needed, we can pull it and handle the inspections for you. Homes on the Everett Register of Historic Places need Historical Commission review and a certificate of appropriateness before most exterior changes, and contributing homes in the Rucker-Grand, Norton-Grand, and Riverside historic overlay zones get city review against design guidelines.
…and everywhere else inside city limits, plus unincorporated pockets around them.

What Moves the Cost in Everett?
Every bid is measured on site and itemized — these are the factors that actually change the number.
Wall area drives material; height drives scaffold time. A Riverside two-story with layered repairs prices differently than a Silver Lake rambler.
Siding replacement →What's behind the old siding is the honest unknown — on a full-home re-side, sheathing rot repair is typically included at no extra cost, and anything past the sheathing, which is very uncommon, is quoted as a change order.
Rot repair →Prefinished James Hardie ColorPlus or primed James Hardie painted on site — we quote them side by side so you see the real difference.
Compare materials →Combining siding and windows saves one full mobilization and gets properly integrated flashing — the cheapest time to do windows is during a re-side.

How Everett Was Built
Everett was built in a hurry. Townsite work began in the fall of 1891, during what local historians call the Rockefeller Boom, and the city incorporated in 1893 on the Port Gardner Peninsula, between Port Gardner Bay and the Snohomish River. In the early 1900s, saw and shingle mills lined the bayfront and the river, and Everett promoted itself as the City of Smokestacks. The oldest residential areas, Northwest, Bayside, and Riverside, filled in across the 1890s–1920s booms, in styles from Queen Anne and Shingle to Craftsman and Foursquare.
Lowell is older than Everett itself: settled in 1863 and platted in 1873, it stayed outside the original city limits until Everett annexed it in 1962, and its paper mill anchored the local economy until it closed in 1972. Delta, on the slope above the Snohomish River, filled in later, with single-family homes built between about 1920 and 1970.
The next wave came with Boeing, which opened its Everett factory in 1967. Postwar homes from about 1945 to 1956 fill much of View Ridge-Madison, apartments along West Casino Road date from the late 1960s on, and the south end, where the Silver Lake area was annexed in the 1980s, grew with 1970s–2000s subdivisions.
The result is a city where each era typically needs something different: early-1900s wood lap rotting at the bottom courses on weather-facing walls, mid-century cement-asbestos siding that follows Puget Sound Clean Air Agency rules when it comes off, and 1980s–'90s hardboard swelling at seams once the paint fails. We bid to the era in front of us, including lead-safe practices on homes built before 1978.
